Program Notes:

"The Rhyme of Lotus" is written for a poetic solo piece. I use traditional ancient and elegant tones of Chinese instrument “Ruan” to portray the profound essence of the lotus flower's life. The introduction of the piece likes the first rays of morning sunlight caressing the water, the pitches of Ruan seem to be the caress of lotus leaves with a slight trickle of freshness. Subsequently, the first section of the composition gradually unfolds a melodic narrative, describing various moments of the lotus blooming. The music continuously rises and falls, delineating the flourishing and powerful aspects of life. The middle section of the piece rhythmically reflects the tenacity of lotus life in muddy environments, the resilience of blooming in water, and the vitality through seasonal changes. In the third section, different tonalities and timbres embody the graceful temperament of the lotus and its profoundness of life. The alternating and undulating tones imply the cycle of blooming and withering. As the introductory motifs reappear towards the end, a tranquil, poetic, and beautiful scene resurfaces in the listeners' minds. The fresh fragrance and the pure and elegant nature of lotus once again manifests through the music.

 

This composition is a lyrical piece that intertwines the lotus, life, and music, leading the audience into a realm filled with poetic melodies and prompting contemplation on the beauty of nature and the philosophy of life.

    《荷韵》是一部富有诗意的中阮独奏作品，通过古老而优雅的中阮乐器演奏，勾勒出荷花生命的深沉内涵。在音乐开篇，如同清晨的第一缕阳光轻抚水面，中阮的音符仿佛是荷叶的轻抚，带有丝丝涓涓的清新。接下来，作品第一部分长线条旋律的逐步呈现描写了荷花盛开的各个瞬间，并且音乐不断地起伏勾勒出生命的盛放和力量。作品的中段部分主要用富有节奏感的模式体现了荷花生命的顽强与在泥泞环境中的坚韧，水中绽放的顽强以及季节更替中的生命力。在作品的第三部分中，不同的音域与音色展现了荷花的婉约与生命的深邃，不同音域的交替和起伏也暗示了荷花的绽放与凋零。随着作品前奏部分的再一次出现，静谧，富有诗意且优美的画面再次出现在人们的脑海中，清新的花香与荷花纯洁高雅的气质再一次用音乐体现出来。
    这是一曲关于荷花、生命与音乐相互交融的抒情乐章，带领听众进入一片充满诗意的音乐仙境，引发对自然之美与生命哲学的深思。
